Munich UAV Incidents Add to Europe’s Security Concerns

The Bavarian capital is now part of a rising group of European airfields affected by unmanned aircraft reports in recent weeks, including seventeen flight cancellations, fifteen rerouted, and many flyers experiencing problems to their trips last night.

Various individuals claimed seeing unmanned aircraft in the vicinity of the airfield, with a further sighting subsequently verified inside the protected airspace, obliging air traffic control to halt activities awaiting inquiry.

It continues to be uncertain how many, or of what type, UAVs were involved.

The disruption occurs just before the final days of the Bavarian celebration gathering, which had already seen disruption earlier this week due to security concerns in the urban area.

Germany’s flight safety authority, the national flight management organization overseeing the German airspace, reported recently that unmanned aircraft reports near airfields are increasing, with 144 incidents so far in the current year, as opposed to 113 last year, and 99 in the year before last.

Foresee the reports and the related problems to fuel the conversation about the continent’s sky protection, shortly after the gathering of EU officials in Copenhagen revealed some disagreements – mainly along regional divisions – about the newly proposed “drone wall” initiative.

It’s Friday, 3 October 2025, and we bring you the latest from Europe.
