Throughout the last generation period, players enjoyed a steady stream of story-rich games, but the pace has appeared as a trickle since the release of Spider-Man 2.

Yet, PlayStation's most recent title – Ghost of Yōtei – signals a reversion to its proven premium style.

The Reason for So Long?

The studio's newest project is a successor to the 2020 Japanese history-based title Ghost of Tsushima, one of the most recent high-profile PS4-exclusive releases from Sony.

"Games require a considerable duration to develop, so it's a major part of your time," notes Fox.

"Furthermore these teams function with synchronization. It's comparable to conducting an symphony.

"One need to have every pieces coming together."

The creative director says that a overwhelming variety of factors can be part of a one sequence – from music to the programming that causes foliage blow over the environment at a critical point.

Chasing the multiplayer market is a strategy the company has acknowledged is not entirely "going smoothly", but it's explained certain releases with online modes, such as Gran Turismo and MLB simulation MLB: The Show, have been successful.

The main attractions of its recent marketing stream were an upcoming game, a follow-up to the earlier Returnal, and the eagerly awaited Marvel's Wolverine title from superhero developer Insomniac – the two single-player experiences.
