Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a major air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were suspended due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Continued Disruption

Officials announced at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, ongoing issues are likely to persist for some time. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers should still plan to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are managed.
