One teenage youth was discovered deceased just days following being falsely accused of stealing the cremated remains of a dead infant during a burglary, an inquest has learned.

Heartbreaking Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents found his body in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on 19 November 2021.

False Allegations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my flat."

In a statement read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, asserting her infant's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later concluded the alleged burglary complainant had "provided false information" and "it now appears that said items was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes generated online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She added that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was detained at home, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her child informed her he had gone into the house because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet whenever he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The inquest learned that one young adult urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

School Response

The hearing heard from school staff at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "overheard some boys talking that the student had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the discussion, the staff member said she called Kai's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they never got that communication.

Official Finding

Senior investigator told the hearing he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative finding, he said: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and exaggerated through the platform of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the police and following his questioning he was released while inquiries proceeded."

The official determined: "There is no evidence that the acts or omissions of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his intent."
